Intensive Behavioural Intervention

Intensive Behavioural Intervention is a treatment program that targets a broad range of developmental areas. It seeks to improve key learning skills in the areas of: cognitive, language and social development. It uses the principles of ABA for treatment but the main difference is the the level of intensity. It requires a minimum of 20 hours of intervention per week.

Our Behaviour Therapists use evidence based treatment to build new skills and reduce or remove challenging behaviours through the use of:

  • Conducting functional assessments.
  • Individualized treatment program.
  • Skill based assessments using ABLLS-R (Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills-revised) and VB-Mapp (Verbal Behaviour Milestones Assessment and Placement Program).
  • Increase independence in areas such as: self care, communication, social interaction etc.
  • Teach functional and adaptive behaviours that build on new skills and replace challenging or problematic behaviours.

Why is Behaviour Therapy Important

ABA is an evidence based treatment approach for individuals with autism spectrum disorder as well as individuals who have varying developmental disabilities -it addresses socially significant behaviours -teaches meaningful skills and appropriate behaviours

Some advantages include:

  • Increases communication, social interaction skills, fine motor and gross motor skills, play.
  • Through assessments determines why challenging behaviours occur.
  • Provides individualized treatment plan.

Is there funding available for Behaviour Intervention?
